Woudstra’s Old Dutch Ring Bologna is a completely smoked and pre-cooked sausage, so it is ready to eat when purchased. It is good sliced and eaten on crackers or on bread as a sandwich. It is more commonly heated in a fry pan with water about ½ way up the sides of the bologna and then served with mashed potatoes and a vegetable as a main course. Nan Reinking was kind enough to share her family’s “favorite” recipe for Dutch bologna with me so I will share it with you this week.
Nan's BBQ Bologna Recipe
1 ring Woudstra’s bologna – cut the size of poker chips (poker chips? Nan what are you doing in your spare time?)
“Secret Sauce”
2 cups ketchup
3 T. brown sugar
3T. prepared mustard
1 t. Worcestershire sauce
Simmer the bologna in the sauce for 10 minutes. We like it served with mashed potatoes and a green vegetable. Any leftovers make a great sandwich.
