1 lb. ground beef (from Woudstra’s of course)
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 packet gehakt kruiden (a Dutch meat spice, available at Woudstra’s)
2 Dutch rusks, crumbled (we have those too!)
1/3 cup milk
Place the meat in a bowl and add the above ingredients. The rusks can easily be crushed in a plastic bag with a rolling pin and then sprinkled into the bowl with no mess. Mix until blended (hands work best, but a spoon will do) and shape into meatballs 1/3 to ˝ cup in size. Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for 45 – 60 minutes, depending on the size of your meatballs. One pound of ground beef makes 4 – 6 meatballs. This recipe tastes just like the meatballs my grandmother used to make. Almost every Sunday we had meatballs and milk rice with butter, sugar, and cinnamon. This recipe is very easily doubled or tripled for a larger family. Simple and Delicious!
